Illustrations and Social Media Madness!

I have another one of those smaller updates to share this month. I’ve scaled back a wee bit on my social media posts recently, partially because life has been busy but also to re-assess what and where I’m posting. With the ever-looming presence of generative AI online and in the workplace, I’m even more careful and aware of how some of these hosting sites use our data (Looking at you, WordPress!) I still have quite a backlog of animations and illustrations that I want to share, but intention is key.

My animations tend to get decent traction (all things considered) on YouTube and Instagram, while my illustrations get more traction on the latter. I’m not necessarily trying to play the numbers game here, but it is nice to know where the people are. All of this is to say;

I’m taking a break from Instagram for a while. Not that Meta has ever really cared about protecting user data or privacy, but using public posts to feed and train their generative AI has left a particularly bad taste in my mouth. Given their track record, this isn’t entirely unexpected. And I’m sure most other social media platforms will follow suit if they haven’t already. It’s just a shame that opting-in is basically the default and opting out is nonexistent. I guess I could just switch all my post to private, but that also really limits my audience.

Depending on what happens on that site, I might be back. But for now I’ll still be posting my illustrations and animations elsewhere (on my website, YouTube, Vimeo, Cara etc.). And most importantly, thank you so much to everyone who’s supported me over there!

Since I don’t want to clog the blog with new illustration posts, I figured I’d compile a bunch together and post about them every couple months or so. Here’s our first little gallery:

I also have a few old speed paints that I really enjoyed making several years ago.

As usual, thanks for reading and taking a look at my art! I’m planning on jumping back into posting animations on LinkedIn sometime soon. I started posting there almost a year ago, but stopped after I felt like I was spreading myself too thin between all these social media platforms. Now that I’m pairing things back a little, I feel it’s time to return to that crazy website. Wish me luck, and see you next time!
